Art & Honey

It’s that time of year again, and the Art Season is starting on St. Croix. In its 18th season, Art Walk, or Art Thursdayis a seasonal treat that goes on from November through the spring, ending in May. The galleries in Christiansted open their doors for a laid back “lime”, displaying and selling art from local artists, as well art curated from sister islands and abroad. Crucian Gold is a handmade jewelry store and home to Maufe gallery that features artists of all ages and backgrounds.  This season will start with its curator, Therese Trudeau as the featured artist, and we are very excited about the upcoming season gallery.

As far as handmade jewelry goes we’ve been quite the busy bees! We are excited to feature our latest collection, the Honeycomb collection. It features a pendant, latching bracelet, bangles and large and small earrings. This collection is extra special, because a portion of the proceeds will go to beekeeping organizations on St. Croix so you can “support local” as we say in the VI, and Feel the Love!

This month, Maufe gallery will feature our own Therese Trudeau, who is showing not only some older pieces, but a new collection, featuring mixed media work with something we all love: coffee. “I’ve always wanted to do a collection like this” she said, and when we asked how she’d describe the collection, she told us simply “whimsical and fun portraits of women with coffee”. Therese tends to lean towards bright, rich colors on drawing paper because “it feels less permanent” and her work is very feminine, bright and free.

Art Thursday is about art in all forms, so as you walk through Christiansted, you can hear art as well! Live music will be at Crucian Gold as well as a few select galleries. If you make Art Thursday a habit, you may get lucky and hear the music of our very own Jewelers who are also professional musicians, Marisol Rodriguez or Rivert Diaz!

Remember, Art Thursday is the third Thursday of every month from 5 to 8 PM. Come and indulge in Crucian art in all its forms!
